Getinge celebrates 80 years of building medtech solutions in Växjö
This month, Getinge looks back on 80 years of developing and producing medtech solutions in Växjö. The facility in southern Sweden is still creating efficient and easy-to-use washer-disinfectors that are core components in central sterile supply departments (CSSDs) all over the world.
The production site in the city of Växjö is located only 150 kilometers from the small community where Getinge was founded. It began its operations on April 5 back in 1943 with focus on a variety of stainless steel products.
Later, the factory specialized in dishwashers and disinfectors solutions for hospitals, and it was part of a Getinge expansion that enabled the company to become a global leader in the field of infection control.
The scope at the production site in Växjö has been growing continuously over the years. Presently, it is Getinge’s Center of Excellence and global hub for washers-disinfectors, including an R&D department as well as production of nine washer-disinfector models and supporting equipment.
The washer-disinfector product lineup ranges from the medium-volume Getinge Aquadis 56 and the high-capacity Getinge 86-series up to the even larger Getinge 9100 Cart Washer-Disinfector.
The facility also produces the two Getinge ED-Flow models used for automated endoscope reprocessing along with a drying and storage cabinet for up to eight endoscopes.
“As experts on the first step in the surgical instrument reprocessing flow, we help prevent cross-contamination and healthcare acquired infections. Our equipment, which can be adapted to suit different requirements and capacities, is designed to deliver efficient cleaning with a high throughput and minimized consumption of energy, water and detergent,” says Jonas Magnusson, who leads a team of about 170 employees in Växjö.
The 80-year celebration is leading up to a launch of a new product later this year, and the employees in Växjö, as well as their colleagues around the world, are excited about creating even more value for the customers.
“Many of us have worked here for a long time and it will be a very nice highlight for our 80-year anniversary to present yet another innovation to the market. We are joined by a great pride to belong to a company that is truly passionate about saving lives,” says Jonas.
