About the course activities

This two-day course has been fondly nicknamed the “Garcia Course” after the charismatic

course director, Prof Javier Garcia Fernandez. It is unique in that it focuses on changing the practices of clinicians in the operating room, focusing on individualized, protective and effective lung ventilation.

The course includes lectures followed by an anesthesia machine workshop. One the second day there is an interactive hands-on animal workshop with different clinical scenarios followed by an isolated lung model.

Day 1 –Theory and anesthesia machine workshop

The lectures build on the required pre-reading, setting a theoretical base for the course going forward. In the afternoon an anesthesia machine workshop was held that included ventilatory modes, when and why to use them as well as monitoring and analyzing graphical patient data.
