The Heartstring III Proximal Seal System is designed to enable the creation of a proximal anastomosis of a vessel graft to the aorta without the need for an aortic clamp during Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery.
The Heartstring III Proximal Seal System, comprised of an Aortic Cutter, Loading Device, Delivery Device, and Seal, is designed to assist the surgeon in performing a proximal anastomosis of a vessel graft to an unclamped aorta.

Provides a temporary seal to create the anastomosis without a lifetime device implant
Proximal Seal
- Designed to provide hemostasis during an aortotomy without the use of an aortic clamp
- Engineered for a hand-sewn and angled take-off anastomosis technique
- Removed following anastomosis, eliminating the risks associated with a permanent implant
Heartstring Aortic Cutter
- Designed to produce a circular aortotomy and capture the aortic plug
- Deployed on un-clamped aorta
- Available in sizes 3.8 mm and 4.3 mm, providing diameter options for the aortotomy
Loading Device
- Rolls and loads the Seal into the Delivery Device
- Numeric visual cues indicate steps
Delivery Device
- Used to deploy the loaded Seal into the aorta
- Safety lock feature to prevent premature actuation
- Audible click confirms deployment of Seal from Delivery Device Tube
The elimination of the need for an aortic clamp reduces clamp-related complications
Techniques which minimize the manipulation of the ascending aorta, including the use of the Heartstring device, are associated with lower postoperative stroke rates compared with conventional on‑pump CABG.[1]
In patients with minimal aortic disease, the cerebral emboli number is significantly reduced when the Heartstring III Proximal Seal System is used compared with a partial clamping strategy.[2]
