Getinge's production facility in Halland is now powered by 99.9 percent renewable energy

Getinge has successfully installed solar panels on the roof of its production facility in the Halland town of Getinge. Combined with electricity from a nearby solar park, this means that 99.9% of the energy used at the production facility now comes from renewable sources.

The solar installation covers approximately 3,000 square meters of panels and was commissioned in May 2024. Together with electricity from the nearby solar park in Susedalen, about 55% of the annual electricity needs at Getinge's production facility in Halland are now met by locally produced renewable energy. The remaining electricity needs are covered by renewable energy with guarantees of origin. In total, this means that the facility is now powered by 99.9% renewable energy – an important milestone in the company's climate efforts.

The solar park was established through a power purchase agreement (PPA) that Getinge signed in 2021 with the energy company E.ON and Susegårdens Solpark. The successful collaboration adds about 1.5 MW of locally produced solar power per year to the Swedish electricity system. During the first year of operation, the roof panels produced 454 MWh of electricity, corresponding to about 12% of the factory's total electricity consumption.

"We started buying renewable electricity with guarantees of origin for solar, water, and certified biogas as early as 2017, which has ensured transparency and control over the climate impact of our energy use. Today, we are proud to combine our own solar installation with a successful local collaboration. At the same time, we are actively working to increase energy efficiency in the operation of buildings and production," says Anna Runa Kristinsdottir, Environmental Manager at the production facility in Getinge.

The solar installation is one of several initiatives helping Getinge achieve its climate goals. The production facility has also switched to electric and hybrid vehicles, offers charging stations for both employees and visitors, and will soon welcome a new electric forklift.

In total, 99.9% of the energy used at the Getinge production facility now comes from renewable sources. Only a minimal amount of oil is used for maintenance of backup generators.

Getinge will continue to explore innovative solutions to further reduce its climate impact from other parts of the value chain.
