Getinge launches Fluobeam LS, advancing fluorescence imaging for small-incision procedures

Getinge today announces the launch of Fluobeam LS, expanding its fluorescence imaging portfolio for small-incision surgery. Designed for procedures such as thyroid surgery and sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection in breast cancer, the device helps surgeons identify anatomical structures that are difficult to distinguish by providing real-time visualization to assist intraoperative decision-making.

Developed through years of clinical experience and surgeon feedback, Fluobeam LS builds on the strengths of earlier generations while addressing the access and visibility constraints of small-incision approaches. Leveraging Fluoptics’ established expertise in fluorescence imaging, the device combines precision, ergonomic design and workflow efficiency to support minimally invasive surgery.

With a compact and lightweight design, Fluobeam LS integrates seamlessly into the operating room. Its ergonomic optical head can be positioned close to the surgical field without obstructing the view, while an integrated joystick allows intuitive control of imaging functions. High-definition imaging, combined with quantitative assessment tools, provides objective insights during critical stages of the procedure. Dedicated acquisition modes enable use across indications.

These capabilities directly support key procedural steps across the device’s primary clinical applications:

  • Thyroid surgery: Identifying and preserving parathyroid glands is essential to prevent complications such as postoperative hypocalcemia. Fluobeam LS uses fluorescence imaging to support clearer tissue differentiation, enabling surgeons to assess parathyroid perfusion with greater precision.
     
  • Breast cancer surgery: Accurate SLN detection is critical but can be limited by conventional techniques. Fluobeam LS provides clear visualization of lymphatic pathways, even through small incisions, supporting accurate detection and more streamlined surgical procedures.

By contributing to improved patient care pathways, Fluobeam LS delivers both clinical and economic value for healthcare providers.

Fluobeam LS was presented at the Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons in Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2026, highlighting the growing adoption of fluorescence-guided techniques in small-incision surgery. The device is CE-marked and will be commercially available in European markets.
