Driving innovation and empowering future leaders in medtech at Getinge

Meet Patricia Fitch, Getinge’s President North America, who is passionate about driving innovation and empowering future leaders in medtech. Together with her team, she is dedicated to advancing patient care and making life-saving technology accessible for more people.

Patricia Fitch's passion for the medtech industry has spanned an impressive three-decade journey. Her diverse experience greatly benefits her current role as Getinge’s President North America.

“It’s a fascinating job where I get to be an obstacle remover, someone who helps break down barriers. There is a lot of collective wisdom in our organization, and I want to empower talented individuals to perform while having fun and inspire them to become our future leaders,” says Patricia.

Collaboration lies at the heart of Patricia's approach. Together with her North American leadership team, she facilitates various initiatives. Their collective efforts are driven by Getinge's overarching purpose to make life-saving technology accessible for more people.

“There is no better reason to go to work every day than to be part of advancing patient care by supporting nurses, doctors, and life science professionals to do their job. It truly is a beautiful mission that also comes with a significant responsibility.”

At all times, and especially during challenges such as when facing supply chain constraints, Patricia emphasizes the significance of communication both with internal teams and with our customers. ‘It is critical that we stay connected and offer as high a level of transparency as possible.”

“In North America, we enjoy market-leading positions in most of the acute care therapies (ACT) product groupings. There remains room, however, for the Getinge brand to become even more widely recognized beyond our legacy brands, like Maquet and Atrium, for both ACT and surgical workplaces. Interestingly, the Getinge brand recognition is well established with customers with our infection control portfolio in this geography.”

Patricia sees a growing push for digital information, as seen in the widespread adoption of electronic medical records, resulting in massive amounts of data collection. To prevent healthcare staff from getting overwhelmed, she highlights the need for Getinge and other industry players to enable the effective utilization of data for improved care delivery.

“Our solutions respond to this challenge. Take Talis Clinical, for example, a cloud-based software solution designed to support and document care throughout the perioperative care process, as well as through labor and delivery episodes and critical care support.”

Additionally, Patricia highlights Torin, a tool that simplifies planning and management optimization of surgical departments, along with T-DOC, a sterile supply management solution ensuring digital traceability of surgical instruments.

“It is amazing to witness how these solutions can enhance workflows and empower healthcare staff to make informed decisions by putting data to work. Digitalization not only makes our technology stickier, it also revolutionizes healthcare. I am excited that we continue to invest in this area since connectivity is a game-changer.”

Looking ahead, Patricia and her team eagerly anticipate bringing new innovations to the market, such as products and financial solutions designed for the ambulatory surgery center space.

"This rapidly growing arena demands our attention, and we are consolidating our portfolio to better address customer needs," Patricia states. "Moreover, we are deeply committed to our sustainability efforts – not just for ourselves, but for the part we play in assisting our customers in reach their goals. Part of this commitment involves assessing the impact of our solutions. Together, we are making a difference."
