Insights from a fast-growing market

Over the past four years, Aruna Nayak has led Getinge’s operations in India through a period of strong growth, learning, and transformation.

Aruna Nayak stepped into the role of Managing Director at Getinge India, bringing with her over two decades of experience across consulting, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare leadership, a journey that reflects both depth of expertise and an ability to navigate complex, evolving markets.

“Time has passed very fast,” Aruna reflects. “It has been a period of great learning, understanding the products, the sector, the service side, and also the responsibilities that come with the role.”

Aruna values flexibility and emphazises the importance of trust between leaders and teams. Since joining Getinge, she has experienced strong support from the company and her colleagues, something she believes is essential for sustainable performance.

At the same time, the results speak for themselves: Getinge’s business in India has delivered consistent growth, supported by strong underlying market dynamics, close collaboration with customers, and a healthcare market that continues to shift toward advanced, quality-led infrastructure.

“It has been very satisfying to see that the efforts the teams are putting in are being reflected in sales outcomes,” Aruna says.

India’s healthcare market continues to grow rapidly, driven by investments in both public and private hospital infrastructure. From smaller, surgeon-owned hospitals to large hospital chains backed by major business groups, the landscape is diverse, and full of opportunities.

“Getinge plays a key role by supporting customers not only with equipment, but also with training, processes, and long-term partnerships. We work with customers end to end,” Aruna explains, “from design discussions to equipment, training, and after-sales support.”

The medtech company’s Experience Centers in Mumbai and Chennai, along with an Innovation Center in Bangalore, are central to this approach. They enable close customer collaboration and support localization initiatives, from product adaptations to software upgrades, helping customers extend the life and value of their equipment.

Looking forward, Aruna is optimistic about the future. With strong quality products, growing momentum across healthcare and life science, and increased focus on localization, Getinge is well positioned to support more hospitals and customers across India.

“Our ambition is to serve even more hospitals and partners,” Aruna says. “Ultimately, it’s about making a meaningful difference for patients, and that is what makes this role so rewarding.”

An area close to Aruna’s heart is Getinge’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work in India. Through an initiative focused on neonatal critical care, Getinge has supported the training of nurses, exceeding the initial target far faster than expected.

“To be able to influence neonatal care in a meaningful way is extremely satisfying,” Aruna says, highlighting the pride she feels in seeing the program expand to additional regions.
