Getinge and Beredskapslyftet strengthen life-saving care in Ukraine through targeted ECMO support
To help sustain life‑saving treatment for critically ill children, Getinge donates Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) consumables to the National Specialized Children’s Hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv, in collaboration with the Swedish non‑profit organization Beredskapslyftet. The donation builds on Getinge’s previous support to Ukraine, including earlier donations of ECMO equipment, anesthesia machines and ventilators, to increase the countries resilience against the challenges of war.

The new donation includes product consumables and cannulation accessories used in ECMO, an advanced life‑support treatment to keep critically ill patients alive while giving their damaged hearts and/or lungs time to recover, or as a bridge until further therapy is possible. The products have been selected based on verified needs from Okhmatdyt to ensure immediate clinical use.
By focusing on consumables, the support can be put into operation immediately without the need for additional installation or training, helping healthcare professionals continue delivering advanced intensive care under challenging conditions.
“In times of crisis, access to functioning intensive care can make the difference between life and death for critically ill patients. Through this donation, we continue our long‑term support to pediatric care in Ukraine, building on earlier efforts to strengthen ECMO capabilities at Okhmatdyt,” says Mattias Perjos, President & CEO at Getinge.
The initiative is executed in close collaboration with Beredskapslyftet, a Swedish non-profit organization that mobilizes partnerships to address urgent societal needs. Beredskapslyftet acts as a coordinating and quality-assuring partner, working closely with hospitals, governments, local stakeholders and Swedish actors to ensure that support reaches where it is most urgently needed, with transparency and accountability.
“By working together with partners like Getinge, we can help ensure that critical support is delivered in a structured and transparent way, while also contributing to long‑term capacity building for intensive care,” says Fredrik Hillelson, Co-founder at Beredskapslyftet.
Through their joint efforts, Getinge and Beredskapslyftet contribute to strengthening resilient healthcare systems in Ukraine, helping ensure that life-saving treatment remains available to critically ill patients.
