Small-scale Bioreactor Cultivation of HEK293-based Suspension Cells Increases Extracellular Vesicle yield
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are increasingly explored as natural vehicles for cell and gene therapies, and drug delivery applications. However, challenges associated with yield and scalability of EV production still pose major challenges in the clinical translation of EV-based therapies. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify and characterize EVs released by Expi293F cells (suspension-grown HEK293 cells) cultivated in either shaker flasks and small-scale bioreactors with the aim of examining the influence of either culturing environment on EV production.
