ECMO Best Practices Beyond Borders: Advancing ECMO Knowledge Across the Region
On 17–18 July 2026, Getinge Singapore successfully hosted ECMO Best Practices Beyond Borders, a two-day educational programme designed to bring together healthcare professionals from across the region to exchange knowledge, strengthen clinical expertise, and share best practices in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
The programme began with a hands-on workshop on 17 July at the Getinge Singapore Experience Centre, led by Dr. Yang Hyun Cho (Korea) and Dr. Mathew Chakaramakkil Jose (Singapore). Participants gained practical experience through ECMO simulation set-up, cannulation and priming techniques, as well as hands-on ECMO training. The workshop also featured interactive scenario-based discussions facilitated by Vivianne Tay (Singapore) and Suhyun Cho (Korea), providing participants with opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world clinical situations.
The learning continued on 18 July with the ECMO Best Practices Beyond Borders Lecture Session, held at Sofitel Singapore City Centre. The event welcomed 36 healthcare professionals and featured an esteemed panel of regional ECMO experts:
- Dr. Yang Hyun Cho (Korea) – Physiology-Based ECMO Management
- Dr. Pranya Sakiyalak (Thailand) – Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR)
- Dr. Mathew Chakaramakkil Jose (Singapore) – V-P (Veno–Pulmonary) ECMO
- Dr. Ng Yew Ewe (Malaysia) – Usage of ECMO for Airway Instrumentation in a Patient with Mediastinal Mass
The lecture session provided valuable clinical insights into contemporary ECMO practices, highlighting patient management, emerging applications, and real-world case experiences from across Asia.
ECMO Best Practices Beyond Borders event brought together healthcare professionals from across the region to learn, exchange ideas, and share experiences in ECMO practice. We are grateful to our speakers, facilitators, planning committee and participants for contributing to the success of the programme, and we hope the discussions and hands-on sessions provided valuable insights that participants can bring back to their respective institutions.
