The Utility of Bioreactors in Undergraduate Education
Bioreactors have become the mainstay in biomanufacturing processes. Expertise in bioreactor setup and usage are critically important for biopharmaceutical professionals. However, the exposure to bioreactor systems typically occurs in advanced courses or at the master's level resulting in a critical skill gap in entry level biotech workers. Here we show work we are performing in training students in setting up bioreactors for meaningful educational experiences and in applied research for fermenting solid waste from breweries to reduce solid waste streams in New England.
