Making sterile reprocessing more sustainable

As a stepping-stone towards a greener future, Getinge provides a new Sustainability Handbook, designed to help health care providers make sterile reprocessing more sustainable.

After listening to the customer’s needs, Getinge is now providing a Sustainability Handbook that shares experiences and ideas on how to develop best practices in sterile reprocessing that are more efficient, less resource-intensive and more sustainable.

“We talked to experts around the globe and their input confirms that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or time consuming,” says Ralf Schmitt, Vice President Sustainability & Leadership at Getinge.

The Sustainability Handbook, which is made for Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) managers and their teams, contains insights presented in 10 recommendations for how to make the daily CSSD workflow more efficient and sustainable.

It also helps CSSD teams identify utility consumption and waste, and it describes new ways to lead teams on the sustainability journey.

“Encouraging innovation and making sure that the team members’ ideas are brought to life are some of the coaching tips that have been emphasized by those who have contributed,” Ralf explains.

He concludes:

“We hope and believe that most sterile reprocessing teams can find golden nuggets in this handbook, and that it will be useful in their daily sustainability work.”
